Domestic Violence Awareness Month: 2020

It’s that time of the year again!

All over the country, people come together during the month of October to raise awareness about domestic violence. Normally, you’d see Skagit DVSAS staff out in the community doing presentations, at local events, and posting up our famous “survivor silhouettes” at local businesses.

But, as you know, this year hasn’t exactly been normal. Community events have all gone virtual, and domestic violence rates have skyrocketed due to the isolation, mental stress, and economic hardship of current events. That’s why it is more important than ever to use Domestic Violence Awareness Month to send this message to our community: We are here to support and believe survivors. Because many of our Domestic Violence Awareness Month events have had to change with the times, we’re working behind the scenes to get the word out in the community virtually.

We can’t do it all ourselves. We’re calling on YOU to help. Here are some events you can get involved in to support survivors.

Purple Thursday

Purple Thursday falls on October 15th, this year. On that day, people all over the country will dress in purple to support survivors. So, dig through your closet, snag something purple and snap a selfie! Post your pictures on Facebook, tag Skagit DVSAS, and use #purplethursday to raise awareness.

Limited Edition DVAM T-Shirts

For the first time ever, Skagit DVSAS has designed limited-edition DVAM apparel! Buy any of these high-quality SDVSAS shirts and hoodies, and you’ll be raising awareness about domestic violence in our community just by wearing it.
